That morning, he was last seen on doorbell video footage from the resort leaving his vacation rental barefoot and without his phone or wallet. He was walking away calmly, but he never returned home.

Although a search party was scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m., the family requested its cancellation just before it was set to begin. His sudden disappearance was unsettling, and authorities quickly became involved.

The Search Efforts 

A comprehensive search operation was launched to find Stanley Kotowski. Authorities used various resources, including canines, drones, and helicopters.

During this period, his family reported that he had been struggling with severe anxiety, insomnia, and paranoia, which might have contributed to his disappearance. 

The Discovery 

The search took a tragic turn on August 26, 2024. A security officer at Sea Pines Resort noticed a foul odor and flies near one of the buildings.

This led to the discovery of Stanley Kotowski body in a small crawl space beneath two townhomes, approximately 150 to 200 yards from where he was last seen.

The body was found only a few houses away from his vacation rental. 

Cause of Death 

An autopsy confirmed that Stanley Kotowski died by suicide through hanging. This type of suicide often involves methods that can cut off the flow of air rather than the more commonly assumed method of hanging from a ceiling.

Authorities believe he died on the same day he disappeared, although the exact time of death could not be pinpointed.
